MYANMAR JUNTA JUST PLAIN FOOLISH
9 days ago, a vicious cyclone tore Myanmar into pieces. Leaving an estimated 22000 death toll that runs contrary to western media agencies approximation of not less than 100000, Myanmar’s citizens are currently in a desperate situation to get much-needed help and assistance. The United Nations estimates the death toll from Cyclone Nargis ranges from 63,000 to 100,000, well above the Myanmar government’s estimate of about 28,000. Tens of thousands of people are missing.
In a move similar to those that were made by Superman’s nemesis Darkseid in ruling the planet Apocalypse, the MYANMAR junta gave a thumbs down to the idea of allowing International Disaster Relief Experts into Myanmar to help in the disaster relief and rescue operations. This is just plain and simple insanity! Thousands of people are dying on the streets without adequate supply of food, clean drinking water and a place to take shelter but the officials of Myanmar’s brutal military regime remains defiant in allowing international disaster relief workers access to most of the disaster-hit cities.
There were reports that soldiers and police killed 36 prisoners who started a fire to keep themselves warm after the cyclone ripped off the roof of their prison. This is brutality at its most cruel level! I wonder why the United Nations is not lifting a finger in trying to stop this bloodbath. Is it because of China who supports the Myanmar junta? Is it the same thing with the US? The things happening at Myanmar are far worst that what has happened to Afghanistan and Iraq but the most that the US can do is to impose economic sanctions. To me, that is like giving a kid’s glove to a serial murderer.
